Seven With Another: Fourth Edition opens

It was around this time last year, that myself and Jessica Huddart had this idea for an exhibition series that we named Seven With Another. Fast forward one year and we're on to our Fourth Edition already!
Pairing fourteen wildly talented creatives from professions as diverse as choreographer, architect and sculptor, Seven With Another‘s trademark melting-pot approach will again result in seven wholly unique artworks. With three hugely successful exhibitions already under its belt, Seven With Another: Fourth Edition will be the final Sub-side SWA, before it hits its roomier new home at Brisbane Powerhouse later in the year. Opening night on 3 Februrary, then open for 7 days.

I was really pleased to receive a bronze award for The Good Guides! Also really pleased to see Aerialicious and Cabaret awarded for photography and retouching. (Well done, Justin!) Congrats to all BAD finalists and winners.

Be Gone

I am in the process of designing Tara's new album, which will be very exciting as it will be letterpressed! But for now we did a little digital version for her brand new single 'Be Gone' that just came out in awaiting the album.

Made In The Now: R.E.M. tribute

I was assigned today's Made In The Now tshirt, on which I worked together with Justin. Today's news story was the announcement that R.E.M. breaks up after 31 years. Here's a fitting tribute, which you can buy at madeinthenow.com but you'll have to hurry; it's only for sale for 24hrs.

Seven With Another: Third Edition

When Seven With Another received a grant from Arts Queensland to continue the series, not only was it a testament to the series so far, but increased excitement, for the already highly anticipated, Third edition. Together with my co-curator Jess Huddart, we are busy curating a new line-up of seven pairs, who have become well acquainted and are joining their specialised forces to explore the process of collaboration whilst creating something we'll all be impressed with. This time around, we'll get to see work from notable creatives - Cezary Stulgis, sculptor / Alex Chomics, film director / Igor Coric, animator / Jesse Smith, photographer / Kate Stein, stylist / Colleen Morgan, interaction designer / Kirsty Boyle, robotics artist / Dane Middleton, sound designer / Riki Salam, indigenous artist / Steve Minon, writer / Kitty Horton, painter / Patrick Ozmin, architectural graduate / Ralph Barnett, art-director / Maria Cleary, designer/maker What will they come up with? Well, we're on tenterhooks wanting to find out.

Opening night: Friday 7 October, 7- 10pm

Open: 8 - 14 October (Sat/Sun 10am - 4pm, Mon - Fri 4pm - 8pm)

Seven With Another : SECOND edition

The success of the first Seven With Another exhibition was evident when there was a line up around our block of people waiting to get into our (usually very roomy) Substation. With plans to continue the series already, myself and my co-organiser Jess Huddart had just the encouragement we needed to make it happen. And so, Seven With Another: Second Edition is well and truly underway, featuring a stellar line-up of some of Brisbane's best creatives. This time around we have also added some new disciplines to the mix, including a singer/songwriter, a graffiti artist and a magician!
Artwork done by the lovely Jenna and Simon Hipgrave, of the Hungry Workshop

Opening night: Friday 27 May, 7pm
Open: 28 May - 3 June (Sat/Sun 10am - 4pm, Mon - Fri 4pm - 8pm)
Free.

Seven With Another

Kicking off the new year with Seven With Another - an exhibition lovingly curated by myself and graphic designer Jessica Huddart (aka JM creative director). Teaming seven pairs of creatives from different creative disciplines, the duos come together to work outside of their usual processes. Hailing from backgrounds as diverse as architecture, sound design, styling and sculpture, the results of this multi-disciplinary stew promise to be anything but boring.

Exhibition runs 12th - 18 February, 10 - 4
Opening night 11 February, 7 - 9

La Petite Mort

Next time you're in a bottle shop and unsure what wine to buy, look out for 'La Petite Mort' by the Dirty Minds Wine Co. These organic wines from Stanthorpe come in several varieties and are very tasty. I designed the labels, with a photograph provided by Ray Cook. Post-Europe Blues

Well, we had the best time in our month in Europe! Visiting my home country, the Netherlands, and also Norway, Berlin and Barcelona. Holidays just never last long enough now do they? Here's a tiny impression of our trip.

Now back to work!
sigh...

The Good Guide

At last, Brisbane gets its own street guide, or ‘the Good Guide’ I should say. This is a job I did for the awesome crew at the Film Garden. The design revolves around the concept of a pidgeon (who knows our city streets better?) and really glorified this little street bird. Complete with a gold foil on the cover and a royal wallpaper for the inside. Check out more pics by clicking on the menu on the left hand side.

Fashion Illustration

The lovely people at Jolt Design Studio asked me if I could do a nice little fashion illustration, to promote the 'Fashion at your Fingertips' Workshops at Brookside Shopping Centre. Bien sur, I said. So this is it. If you like to see the bigger image, just click on 'Fashion at your Fingertips' in the illustration menu on the left.

Painting trees

Just been working on a lovely but also very tedious job for the Hoopla Family... I was asked to paint a map for their client Spicers Hidden Vale. Now I am always happy to get my pens and brushes out and this time was no exception. I fully enjoyed doing this one, but after 4 long days of looking at trees I was also very happy to finish this one!

A sustainable christmas message

This christmas design I did for 'In Africa' arrived as a card, folded open to a poster, and could be used as christmas wrapping paper. The font I designed was a contemporary take on traditional african art. I have uploaded the full project onto my site and you can find it under In Africa > Christmas in the menu on the left.

All You Can

December 4 saw the album launch of Tara Simmons' latest EP, titled All You Can. Once more I was asked to do the artwork and ofcourse I said I'd love to!

Where I came up with the idea and did the design and art-direction, I could not have done this one without Ricky Sullivan, who photographed this job, and with a whole lot of magic by Justin Overell, who was responsible for the imaging and retouching. Oh, and a thank you to Millie, Lola, Brock and Mia for letting us your their toys ;-)
To view all the All You Can artwork, click on the title on the menu on the left.

Hakuna Matata!

Thought it would be cool to do an illustration for the In Africa office. Took a while, but hey, I had fun :-) It turned out to be an illustration you can look at for a while. My dad even reckons he spotted a crocodile, but I guarantee you that there's none in there.

By clicking on 'In Africa > illustration' in the illustration menu on the left, you'll be able to view this image nice and big, and also see that the awesome people of engraveyourbook engraved some great moleskine covers for me too.

Beer 'o clock

Our mate Tom brews his own gingerbeer, and it's really good. You should try it!
This project was yet another collaboration with Justin at Ion Design; he was responsible for the art-direction, and I enjoyed doing the design and illustration for this one. View the full project by clicking on Mille Plateaux in the menu on the left.
